“Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” 1 Peter 1:8
Has there ever been a moment in your life that you took a leap of faith? While living a structured life with routine can feel safe and comfortable, it is not actually until we are out of our comfort zone that we are able to grow. I was reminded this past week of the story in Matthew 14 of Jesus walking on water, and commanding Simon to step out of the boat to walk on the water to Him. As the story goes, Simon takes the step out of the boat and begins to walk toward Jesus. But then he looked away from Jesus, toward the storm, became frightened and began to sink. He cried out “Lord, save me!” and Jesus graciously gave Simon his hand and pulled him up. Jesus says to Simon, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”. This paints such a beautiful picture of how putting our faith in Jesus can take us places we never thought possible, but when you take your eyes off of Him, you can sink into terrifying lows. While we may not experience physically seeing Jesus on this side of Heaven, we can be filled with inexpressible and glorious joy, by putting our faith in Him daily. Every morning we can choose to place our faith in Him, or the world. He is better. He wants more for us. We must not doubt His plan, but wholeheartedly follow Him in every area of our lives. While Jesus does not promise to show us the full staircase, He does promise to be with us and gives us enough clarity to take the next step. Keep your eyes on Him, and take the step of faith today.
