In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
That they may see. So often, as believers, we strive to please God in order to earn what has already been freely given. Salvation was bought and paid for by Jesus, and our sins were forever nailed to the cross. He defeated sin and the grave so we could live and live fully in the life He has called us to. So, now what? Once you have fully surrendered, laid down your life, and decided to follow Jesus, what comes next? Others. It doesn’t stop with us. You see, we are called to let our light shine before others, for their benefit, not to boast in ourselves, but to boast fully in Christ. We are called to stand up for the truth so others may see and know the Truth through us. The term “Christian” comes from the Greek word christianos, which literally means “little Christ.” As followers of Jesus, we must strive to emulate Christ in our everyday lives. Live as He lived, treat others as He did, all so they may know Him more. Our life is our mission field. Our workplace, home, church, ballpark, grocery store, it is all a mission field. As Jesus states to His disciples in Matthew 9:37, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” I urge you to live intentionally today: live on mission, live for Jesus with others in mind, that they may see our Father, know Him more, and experience the joy that is life lived in the presence of God.
