Rest, Abide, Surrender

He must become greater; I must become less. John 3:30

Does life ever seem to move too fast? For me, that has been true for the last year or more. Sometimes I feel like I am playing catch-up. You see, we strive to fit into a week everything we possibly can. At the end, we may feel tired and burned out. For many, it may feel like there is no option to slow down. Whether you’re a post-grad with weekends filled with weddings, showers, and trips, or a mom with multiple children you are chasing each day while maintaining the home and trying to keep up with your personal passions as well, life can feel like too much sometimes. This is when the Lord usually gently whispers, this is not what I want for you. Rest, abide, and surrender. Those three words remind me of what the Lord truly desires. We must intentionally check in on our hearts and remind ourselves what life is truly about. Resting in the Lord is a requirement of biblical Christianity. He created Sabbath rest because He knew we needed it. Abiding in Him involves staying close to His heart, seeking Him, and surrendering our worries, our stress, and our life’s desires at His feet trusting He will provide. He is and always will be our faithful Father. I encourage us all to take a step back, reflect on where we could trust Him more, and remember: He must become greater; I must become less. Thank You, Father, that You are always waiting for us to return to You. You are all we truly need.
