Living with Confidence: Lessons from the Birds of the Air

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26

They’re all around us, whether you’re taking a sunset stroll in your neighborhood, sitting with your toes in the sand at the beach, or enjoying the first cup of coffee as you stare off into the mountains. Chirping loudly, cooing softly, and flapping their wings as they land in their nests to feed their babies, birds surround us with their natural beauty. They aren’t so worried with trivial details, they fly around with confidence and assurance. “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” This scripture from Matthew reminds us of the mindfulness of our Father. Knowing He cares for even the birds, we can appreciate how much more He cares for us. I reflect on David’s psalms, “You have searched me Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar” Psalms 139:1-2. How amazing that God both knows our thoughts, and cares for us deeply. He is our Jehovah Jireh. He is our provider and our comforter. Have confidence knowing that He cares for you and sees every detail. As much as we can think ourselves into a frenzy, we can fill our minds with the truth of the scriptures. We can combat those anxious thoughts with words of wisdom. We can be content in every circumstance knowing He is enough. Just as the birds happily chirp through the day, we too can joyfully walk through each day with our strength being found in Christ alone.
