A Sincere Heart

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:22

Sincerity can be rare in a world that instinctively puts itself first. It’s easy to rush through life, always focused on what’s next. Whether it’s a checklist of activities or the life stages we pass through, we as humans tend to hurry—often spending as little time as possible being intentional and present in the moment. Being sincere in heart, is referring to a believer who fully submits to the will of God— a true believer that sincerely seeks Him, fully trusting in Him. This means surrendering control of your life and the desires of your heart to Him. When we draw near to God with a sincere heart, we are giving Him every piece of ourselves. Obedience to Him reflects our willingness to be sincere in heart. When you love Him, obedience becomes a blessing, because we know He is good, and His plans exceed all of our expectations. This week is Holy Week—the week Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, as the crowds waved palm branches and cried out, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Matthew 21:9) Yet by the end of the week, as the prophet Isaiah foretold: “He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) Jesus died, taking on the sins of the world, and rose again, so that we could have access to eternal peace and healing through Him. Our grateful response to His sacrifice is to live a life of sincerity with a heart devoted to furthering His kingdom and showing His love to others.
