Rejoice in the Lord, Always

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Philippians 4:4-5

You know those friends who fill your cup? The ones you have conversations with that leave you feeling more joyful, hopeful, and excited about life? Well the great news is, Jesus is a friend that scripture tells us sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24) Friendships are so vital to our daily lives, but our friendship with Jesus is most crucial to our perseverance in the faith. So tell Him what is on your heart. Speak to Him like you do your best friend. Yes, He already knows what is on our hearts and every detail of our lives. “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows”. (Luke 12:7) But it is through an intimate relationship with Him that we are able to discern His voice. We know He is near, His Word promises us that. The next few verses of Philippians 4 go on to encourage us by saying, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7) Peace through every circumstance is the byproduct of abiding with our Father and Friend, Jesus Christ. As we draw near to Him in prayer, His peace will guard our hearts and minds, His gentle presence will fill us, and we will again be able to rejoice. He wants His children to have peace, to rejoice in every situation, trusting His sovereignty above all. We have this hope as an anchor for our souls, firm and secure. (Hebrews 6:19) He is our hope, our dearest Friend and the One in whom we can rejoice.
